Toxic Plant List

bl solution is poisonous to horses!?

Yucca is in bl solution and I heard there are studies that have been proven that it’s poisonous to horses. Also take a look at this website! –> http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/plants/plant-list-horses.html It says on there that Yucca is poisonous to horses ( on the bottom of the first section labled “toxic plants” )!
Is this true?

It depends on the way the yucca is processed and the quantity ingested. There is no scientific evidence that it is of any benefit when fed to horses so why anyone would risk feeding a known toxin without scientific proof of benefit is beyond me.

Since this is not an FDA regulated product, there are no guarantees that what you are feeding your horse is not a toxic form or quantity of the yucca saponins, which are the toxic components. Devil’s claw is also mixed into the ingredients contained in bl solution, and is also known to stimulate secretion of stomach acids which can cause ulcers, among causing several other harmful side effects. It’s efficacy as an antiinflammatory has also been disputed in legitimate scientific studies. Most of the research you find online is product sponsored, which means it can be pure fiction. any time you use these products it is a virtual crap shoot. Without the years of controlled studies required to gain FDA approval, you really don’t know what you are getting, and even if what you pay for is actually doing more harm than good.
I’d walk away from the bl solution, unless you have a desire to keep making the wrong people rich by handing them your hard earned money while they continue to get away with selling the public the often worthless and sometimes even toxic junk they produce.
The only labelling claim approved in the US for yucca is that it can be used to reduce odor from pet or livestock manure and urine.
